Evolution Broadcast Announces Agreement with Sony Australia and Global Television

By TOM BARNETT

Sydney based Evolution Broadcast announced today that it has embarked on a technology development agreement with Sony Australia and Global Television to further enhance Evolution’s Nexus technology.

The year long agreement allows for Evolution’s Nexus production system to be tailored to specific program genres and to integrate Sony’s range of market-leading broadcast products.

The Nexus is a software-driven control system for television production that allows users to achieve significant reductions in production costs through the use of multi-skilled operators and revolutionary user interfaces.

For some time, customers have been asking Evolution for a Nexus that integrates with Sony products, and this new relationship will allow Evolution to extend the technology base to include Sony vision mixers and other professional broadcast solutions.

The agreement is also targeted at extending Global Television’s offerings, and at improving outcomes for their clients by delivering tailored technology solutions for specific projects.

In making the announcement today Evolution’s Director, Mr Brett Morris, said the alliance is yet another step in the development of the ground-breaking Nexus system. Mr Morris said the Nexus had been successfully trialled with BBC Outside Broadcasts in the UK late last year, but this latest project will consolidate the system in the Australasian region through Global Television, backed by the world-recognized excellence of Sony broadcast products.

Mr Morris said “We have been in discussion with Global Television and Sony Australia for some time about extending the capabilities of the Nexus and this agreement allows us to collaborate more closely with our customers and to extend our technical leadership. But we expect strong commercial outcomes for all three parties from our joint efforts.

The project will be headed by Evolution’s David Sabine, who has piloted the Nexus system from inception to its present stage. Mr Sabine said “This is an exciting project for us. The Nexus has won high praise from production specialists around the world, but working with Sony Australia and Global Television will allow us to take the Nexus to a higher level.”

Charles Montesin, Group Marketing Manager, Broadcast & Professional Solutions for Sony Australia said, “This is a really interesting development to be involved in as it taps into our core competencies. At Sony we are always looking to create new ways of delivering more cost effective, more integrated and more innovative solutions to the market. We hope that this agreement with Global Television and Evolution paves the way for the integration of Sony broadcast products within other areas of the industry.”
